The protagonist of Chinua Achebe’s beloved work Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo, will be portrayed by English actor Idris Elba in a new TV series produced by American entertainment company A24.
Elba, who is most known for his appearances in Beasts of No Nation, The Suicide Squad, Pacific Rim, and Thor, will also produce the series.
The esteemed performer has received praise for his roles in well-known TV shows like Luther and The Wire.
In the 2013 biographical picture Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, he also played Nelson Mandela.
The news was exclusively released by Variety on Thursday. The publication noted that although there isn’t a writer presently working on the adaptation, it is still in its early stages and hasn’t found a network or streaming service.
As to Variety, “Things Fall Apart” is officially described as the narrative of Okonkwo (Elba), who is a fierce African warrior and leader who is determined to preserve his people and culture. Okonkwo is one of literature’s most memorable figures.
Okonkwo’s fight to hold onto authority and tradition while British colonists upend his culture leads to a devastating battle. His unwavering determination, a fatal weakness in the face of uncontrollable change, makes him a memorable figure who personifies the conflict between resilience, strength, and flexibility.
Under the 22Summers production name, Elba and Gina Carter will work together as executive producers.
Through Yoruba Saxon, David Oyelowo and Amanda N’Duka will also serve as executive producers. Ben Forkner, Dayo Ogunyemi, and Achebe Masterworks will also serve as executive producers.

In the 1971 film adaptation of Things Fall Apart, well-known Nigerian actor Pete Edochie portrayed Okonkwo, the esteemed wrestling champion of Umuofia. The miniseries adaptation of the film followed in 1987.
