Several reports from Italian media have reported that a 51-year-old Irish supporter of Liverpool tragically died on Monday night while trying to cross the A4 highway near the Orio al Serio Airport in Bergamo, Italy.
The nameless fan was trying to cross the busy highway when he was hit by a car. It was believed that he had just arrived in Italy from Manchester.
The man’s body was found by the local authorities near the airport, and the two people who had traveled with him were nowhere to be found.
The dead was a fan of Liverpool who had a ticket to the eagerly awaited Champions League match between AC Milan and Liverpool at the San Siro stadium, according to the Italian daily Il Corriere della Sera.
The terrible occurrence reportedly happened while the fan was attempting to go to the NH Hotel, where he was supposed to stay the night before the big game.
The tragic death of the Liverpool fan has clouded what was supposed to be a thrilling European experience, even though investigations are still ongoing.
