Some officials of Lagos State Building Control Agency LASBCA were held captive and beaten up by some very angry policemen attached to an ongoing building construction site in Badore Ajah Lekki Lagos.
These LASBCA officials were on duty to ensure that the ongoing construction project was in line with the standard laid down by LASBCA when they were attacked and beaten up squarely by some policemen at the ongoing construction site at Olumide Madariola street,seaside estate ajah lekki Lagos
Following the information recieved by LASBCA on illegal constructions going on in that area of Ajah which didnt meet the standard,this officials approached the men on a site which had been sealed by the agency after several visits to other properties.
On getting to the site,the officials asked the men on duty for relevant documents necessary for construction according to the law, but instead of producing such relevant documents some policemen attacked them and held then bound for some hours within the premise.
According to an eyewitness who witnessed such act ,a policeman named Joseph shot bullets into the air thereby causing an alarm and fear for people passing by and around the scene.
These Officials were rescued from the angry policemen by a lawyer who lives in the vicinity.
Addressing this act, Dr Idris Salako who is the Commissioner for physical planning and Urban development said:
“this act would not be tolerated and would not deter officials of the Ministry and its Agencies from carrying out their official assignments.
He also stated that such illegal construction which negatively impacts the state would not be tolerated until full compliance is achieved.
Engr Biola Kosegbe ,who is the General manager of LASBCA frowned at such act displayed by the policemen.She is yet to understand why policemen who are to protect the lives of people and properties would be caught in the act of harassing officials of LASGCA who were on duty and dressed accordingly.
She also stated that the both the developer and policemen should be prosecuted for assaulting the officials who were on duty.
A stern warning was also given by Engr Biola to developers/ owners to stop embarrassing officials who are on duty in the state to ensure that all buildings are safe to inhabit.
