In an attempt to sign a new midfield player before the transfer window closes, Pep Guardiola’s team has formally approached the Spanish player and is in negotiations with the Portuguese powerhouse.
Nico’s contract with Porto has a €60 million release clause, and Barcelona has a 40% future sell-on clause.
According to Romano’s report, Porto is not eager to allow the former La Masia star go and will only entertain his exit if it comes with a hefty price tag.
The Blaugrana would profit handsomely in that case since they would be eligible to receive 40% of the transfer fee that Manchester City pays Porto for Nico. Barça would get €24 million if his €60 million release clause came into effect.
If the transaction moves quickly, it may also make room for Barcelona to pursue Marcus Rashford, whose chase has stalled due to salary space constraints.
