Jakarta (ANTARA): As of Friday, 238 nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPG) in 31 provinces were operational to produce meals for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, according to Dadan Hindayana, head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).
He stated that around 650 thousand children, pregnant women, nursing moms, and toddlers will be served by those public kitchens as part of the program.
“The number is still rising. Our goal is to assist three million people by April 2025. “It will reach six million people by August,” he stated during a press conference on Friday at the Presidential Palace.
President Prabowo Subianto called a meeting of ministers and leaders of institutions on Friday to explore how all parties can work together to attain the goal, particularly in places that have not benefited from the aid.
“The President wants this program to be cross-sectoral,” Hindayana stated.
He claims that Prabowo has also voiced worries about areas that haven’t started the MBG program.
“Therefore, we are gathered to expedite this program,” he continued.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak also attended the meeting.
Rachmat Pambudy, Minister of National Development Planning; Tito Karnavian, Minister of Home Affairs; Budi Arie Setiadi, Minister of Cooperatives; Maman Abdurrahman, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises; Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Finance; and Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Minister of Defense, also attended the meeting.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Villages Yandri Santoso, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya were also present at the meeting.
Prabowo started the Free Nutritious Meals initiative. About 190 SPPGs were in operation on January 6, the first day of its official implementation, providing meals to integrated health posts and schools in 26 provinces.
