A story from The Mirror says that Mike Tyson and Jake Paul will be “suspended” for a while after their fight on Friday night.
That being said, this ban is not because of breaking the law or a policy. Instead, it is required by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Before the fight, The Mirror made it clear that “no matter who wins, both men will be suspended.” In any case, it is technically necessary to rest.
Since the fight between Tyson and Paul was a professional one and not a showcase, both fighters must follow the rules set by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which approved the fight.
Following the rules, both Tyson and Paul had to take three days off for every round they fought. The two must now rest for 24 days because their fight went all eight rounds.
“Mandatory rest—all contestants shall receive a mandatory rest period of calculated as three days of rest for each round fought with no less than a seven day mandatory rest period,” it said.
Both fighters also have to go through a “post-contest examination,” which could mean they are medically suspended or disqualified. The rule says that “medical suspension will be based on the physician’s recommendation.”
But since no one was knocked out, Mike Tyson and Jake Paul won’t be medically disqualified. Paul beat Tyson by majority decision. The judges gave it scores of 80–72, 79–73, and 79–73.
It’s possible that Tyson and Paul will not be in a hurry to get back into the ring after their three-week break. It’s possible that both boxers will use the time off to rest and enjoy the huge money they will win in the fight.
Tyson is likely to make $20 million from the fight, while Paul is likely to make $40 million.
