NAFDAC has issued a warning to Nigerians about a specific batch of Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on Deodorant (50ml) that’s being recalled due to safety concerns.
The affected batch, with number 93529610, contains a prohibited chemical called 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde (BMHCA) that can harm the reproductive system, pose risks to unborn babies, and cause skin irritation or burns.
Apparently, this deodorant claims to provide 48-hour protection in African climates, but the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products in Brussels flagged it, prompting NAFDAC to take action.
The recall notice advises importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to prevent the importation, distribution, sale, and use of the affected Nivea Roll-on with the specified batch number. NAFDAC has urged the public to cease the sale and use of the affected batch and to submit any stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Additionally, healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report any adverse events related to the use of regulated products.
