Nigeria is in the dark after the national grid collapsed again on Monday.
In a statement released Monday night, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company spokesperson Emeka Ezeh acknowledged the system meltdown.
He claims that Monday’s general system meltdown happened at 18:48.The Disco claimed that the development had caused its franchise to lose power.
“The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) would like to notify its valued clients of a general system failure that took place at 18:48 on this day, October 14, 2024. As a result, the whole EEDC network is currently experiencing a supply outage.
As a result of this event, we are unable to serve our clients in the states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo since all of our interface TCN stations are currently out of stock.
He stated, “We are waiting for comprehensive information from the National Control Center (NCC), Osogbo, regarding the collapse and supply restoration.”
The grid meltdown was also confirmed by Eko Distribution Company.
“Dear Valued Customer,” it said. Please be advised that our network’s power supply was cut off due to a system failure that occurred at 18:48.
“We are presently collaborating with our partners in the hopes of a prompt grid restoration. As soon as the power supply is restored, we’ll keep you informed.
“Please be patient with us.”
The grid experienced a partial breakdown in August 2024, leading to a blackout. This July, the national grid also failed.
In the past 14 years, Nigeria’s national grid has crashed roughly 227 times, according to data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
This occurs in the midst of a 240 percent increase in electricity rates in April, which has made the problems Nigerians are suffering worse.
