Nigeria@64: Senator Natasha’s Cries For Aid Are Accompanied By Protests.

The planned statewide protests by Nigerian youths have been characterized by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) as a desperate cry for help that demands the attention of those in authority.

In an Independence Day essay titled “A Nation on the Verge of Redefinition,” the senator made this statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

As we struggle with economic difficulties, protests have emerged as a potent means of expressing our dissatisfaction, the speaker stated. Our demands for the attention of people in positions of authority are becoming louder. Protests serve as a call to action, a cry for assistance, and a demand for change.

“As I consider Nigeria’s 64th anniversary of independence, I see that our country is on the verge of a significant transition.

In the current socio-political environment, living expenses are rising, protests are imminent, and political processes are being manipulated by special interests. These difficulties are now driving a broadening of the sociopolitical landscape.

As our purchasing power is diminished by inflation and stagnating salaries, we are finding it difficult to make ends meet. The financial crisis has reached a breaking point, severely lowering our standard of living.

“It is now difficult for the average Nigerian to afford necessities due to the skyrocketing prices of basic commodities.”

The federal legislator expressed regret over what she perceived to be the manipulation of the election process by entities that endangered democracy itself.

“Corruption and manipulation have tainted our electoral system,” declared Akpoti-Uduaghan. Democracy is undermined by this, and we become disenfranchised and disillusioned. The fundamental tenets of our democracy are in danger due to the manipulation of election procedures.

“As we overcome these obstacles, a sociopolitical evolution takes shape. We call for increased responsibility, openness, and diversity. Our goal is to establish a new Nigeria based on the values of equity, justice, and equality.

As we commemorate our 64th anniversary, we find ourselves in a pivotal moment. Shall we follow the path of stagnation or take this opportunity to reshape our future? We have no choice but to change.
