Senator Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo State, responded to recent rumors that he had died. He said they were made up because he got a good welcome at the funeral of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha voiced shock at the “breaking news” that he had died in a London hospital from a fake illness called “acute gorilla” on November 6, 2024. The news came from unnamed sources.
The statement made it clear that Okorocha, who was in Owerri for the funeral, was healthy and hadn’t been sick since he quit his job in 2019.
It said, “To all men and women of conscience, the correct breaking news is that Rochas Okorocha is neither sick nor dead.” During his time in Owerri, he was healthy and happy, and he stuck to his plan, going to services in Abuja to honor famous Igbos like Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.
The statement also said bad things about the people who started the story, calling them “dead in spirit” and saying they were angry about how well Okorocha was treated at Iwuanyanwu’s funeral. Okorocha felt sorry for them and asked everyone to pray for their spiritual healing. He also told them that anyone who had bad intentions should not hurt them.
The statement went on to say, “Those who spread this news are mad about the cheers Okorocha got.” People that God has blessed are not cursed. Instead, we hope that these people truly change their minds and go back to living a normal life. “We pray for them,” it said in the end.
