Tobi Amusan who is the current world record holder, began her quest for a podium finish in the 100 metres women hurdles event by winning her heat in a time of 12.49s and qualifying for the semi-finals.
Amusan was quicker than USA’s Alaysha Johnson in 2nd with 12. 61s and Janeek Brown in 12.84s.
Nigeria is yet to win a medal at this year’s Olympics.
