The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 presidential election, Peter Obi, has faulted the decision of the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, to call President-elect Bola Tinubu a few days ago.
Recall that Blinken on Tuesday, May 16, put a call to Tinubu where he pledged the US continuous support to the Nigerian government.
In a series of tweets shared this morning, Obi opined that the most fundamental tenet and core value of democracy is the rule of law and that since Nigeria’s democracy is founded on these principles which the American people hold dear, the U.S.-Nigeria relationship should be guided by the core values of democracy.
He stated that the outcome of the presidential election is being contested in court and that Nigerians expect the United States to await the full resolution of the ongoing judicial processes before tacitly conferring legitimacy on the outcome of the election.
