Police Turn Down N174m That A Caught Fraudster Offers Them

Officers from the Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, turned down a cash offer of N174m from Patrick Akpoguma, a 28-year-old man who is thought to be an internet fraudster.

The suspect was said to have been involved in many types of fraud on the internet, such as identity theft, cyberhacking, bitcoin fraud, rituals, and cultism.

When he talked to reporters at Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, Akpoguma, the suspect, admitted to the crime.

He said that in order to clear his name, he started paying the cops to do negative things about him.

He made an offer of $100,000 USD, which is about N174 million. Friday, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, told the press that the investigation into Akpoguma’s actions began on November 7, 2024, after reports from people who live on Chevron Drive in Lekki, where the suspect lives.

AIG Fayoade said that Patrick Akpoguma admitted to taking part in romance scams and other scams linked to cryptocurrency. He meets different people online and pretends to be a well-known and respected white American, like Colonel Matt Herbert, a U.S. Army officer who is currently on a mission to keep the peace in Iran. He also pretends to be Adam Taggart, a famous crypto currency and stock trading expert in the US.

The suspect, Akpoguma, talked about what he did and said that he turned to theft three years ago because he thought he was too smart to work for money.

“My name is John and I am 28 years old. I graduated from Mechanical Engineering.” Once I was done with school, it was clear that I had to go my own way and try to get back on my feet. While I looked for something real, I chose to try scam.

“Since I began committing fraud three years ago, I’ve earned more than $500,000 USD.” I’ve done a lot. I now have a house in Lagos, a house in Edo State, and a GLE Benz worth N100,000.

“I just walk away from people I’ve ripped off once I feel like I’ve taken enough from them.” I don’t leave them with no money.
