On October 1, President Bola Tinubu gave a speech to commemorate the country’s 64th anniversary of independence.
The following are the ten (10) salient points highlighted from the President’s speech:
Economic Reforms: Tinubu recognized the challenges facing the country’s economy, such as growing unemployment and living expenses. He assured Nigerians that reforms are starting to have a good impact and encouraged them to have patience. “We are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel, and I want to assure you that your voices are heard.”
Security Achievements: The President declared victory over terrorism and banditry, citing the elimination of over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders. “Our administration has brought peace back to hundreds of communities and is winning the war on terror and banditry.”
Displaced People’s Return: Tinubu revealed that a large number of Nigerians are making their way back to their homes from areas of war. “Thousands of our people can now go back home.” Our security services are dedicated to putting a stop to this as soon as feasible.
Natural Disasters Reaction: The President declared the establishment of an Integrity Test for Dams and the establishment of a Disaster Relief Fund in reaction to the recent flooding. “In times of need, our people will always have the support of this federal government.”
Foreign Investments: In the last year, Nigeria has received over $30 billion in foreign direct investments. “Our nation received over $30 billion in foreign direct investments as a result of the reforms.”
Agriculture and Food Security: In order to increase food production and cut expenses, Tinubu emphasized the value of mechanized farming and the construction of a tractor assembly facility. “We anticipate a sharp increase in food production and a sharp decline in food prices.”
Energy Transition: In order to reduce transportation expenses, the President has confirmed that compressed natural gas, or CNG, will be used more often in mass transit. “We are on track with our energy transition initiative to provide more affordable public transportation.”
Youth Empowerment: Tinubu announced the creation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, the 3 Million Technical Talents program, and a National Youth Conference. “Our young people will be empowered to actively participate in nation-building through this conference.”
Fiscal Responsibilities: By paying off large inheritances and lowering Nigeria’s debt service ratio, the administration has stabilized its foreign reserves. “We have decreased the debt service ratio from 97% to 68%.”
Unity and Resilience: In the midst of adversity, Tinubu urged Nigerians to maintain their optimism and unity. We are stubborn and resilient Nigerians. We always come out on top and transcend our situation.
