The police have been instructed by President Bola Tinubu to protect Rivers State Local Government Officials and to promptly restore and uphold law and order.
President Tinubu stressed the need of securing the security of public facilities while giving law enforcement officials instructions to put the situation under control.
The President stated that public-funded government buildings need to be protected against vandalism in a statement sent by his Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
He emphasized that, particularly after 25 years of nonstop democracy, self-help has no place in a democratic system.
President Tinubu asserts that all political conflicts may be resolved by the judiciary, and the results of this election should be no different.
The President “called on political leaders and their supporters in Rivers State, as well as Governor Siminalayi Fubara, to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law,” the statement continued.
The President conveyed grave worry over reports of explosions and arson throughout the state in reaction to the tensions that have been building since last Saturday’s local government council election.
He pleaded with all political players to defuse the crisis and dissuade their followers from using violence or other damaging methods.
