Shettima Travels To New York For UNGA 79.

Arriving in New York to represent Nigeria at the 79th United Nations General Assembly is Vice President Kashim Shettima.

This was announced in a statement on Monday by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President).

Shettima landed in New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport early on Monday morning, according to Nkwocha.

He claimed that Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, met the vice president upon his arrival.

Other attendees included Nigerian diplomats, UN representatives, and Kashifu Inuwa, the director-general of the National Information Technology Development Agency, among many others.

Nkwocha stated that Shettima would head Nigeria’s delegation to the UNGA this year, per President Bola Tinubu’s instructions.

The vice president would present Nigeria’s national statement and take part in a number of high-level meetings, he continued.

An important turning point in the worldwide endeavor to expedite the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals is the 79th UNGA session.

The UNGA’s much-awaited Summit of the Future serves as a reminder of how urgently more international cooperation is needed.

In addition to addressing the effects of continuing conflicts and global health crises, it is to address urgent issues like poverty, inequality, and climate change.

During the high-level week of September 23–27, the UN Department of Global Communications will host its flagship SDG Media Zone, featuring in-depth interviews and debates on global topics that are important to people everywhere.

On September 22–23, Heads of State and Government will assemble at UN Headquarters in New York to discuss the pressing issues and shortcomings in global governance that have been brought to light by recent shocks to the world economy.
