South African: Wife bags 22-year jail term for murder of her cop husband

Nonkululeko Ngwabe, 46, of South Africa, was found guilty and sentenced to 22 years in prison for the horrific murder of her husband.

Nonkululeko was sentenced at Kwazulu-Pietermaritzburg Natal’s High Court on Monday, June 7.

On November 3, 2019, she plotted with three guys to assassinate her husband, Warrant Officer Thulani Ngwabe.

According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, a lifeless body of Warrant Officer Ngwabe, 51, who was stationed at Margate Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, was discovered near Port Shepstone beach on the railway lines with multiple stab wounds on 3 November 2019.

A murder case was reported to the Port Shepstone police station, and the matter was assigned to Hawks members from the Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime team for further investigation.

His wife was arrested by Hawks members for the first time in December of this year. Her arrest resulted in the discovery of information concerning the assassins she reportedly hired to assassinate her husband.

Sthembiso Mbona (25), Nhlakanipho Ndovela (23) and Saziso Khambule (25) were all arrested and charged. In December 2019, they were apprehended in the Murchison area near Port Shepstone and charged with murder.

All of the accused made multiple appearances in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court and were kept in custody until their bail was successfully challenged.

The three men’s case was then transferred to the Pietermaritzburg High Court for trial, which was rescheduled for June 18, 2021.
