On Monday Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 election, criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for always disrespecting court orders.
Sowore recalled the federal government’s alleged contempt for the rule of law a few years ago — the detention of former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, a retired Colonel; and the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, despite bails granted them by the court at the time.
While Kanu has been rearrested and brought back to Nigeria (in June 2021), as his trial continues, Dasuki was facing trial on an alleged diversion of N19.4 billion arms funds, as well as illegal possession of arms.
Sowore wrote on his verified Facebook page;
“6 years ago, a court ordered the release of Nnamdi Kanu but the lawless Muhammadu Buhari regime refused to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Six years later Muhammadu Buhari sent his goons to abduct Kanu from Kenya, tortured and extra- ordinarily renditioned him to Abuja. Buhari is now saying Kanu should go and fight his case out on court. Which court? The same courts he disobeys at will?” .
