Ten Things To Know About Monday Okpebholo, The Incoming Governor Of Edo.

The winner of the Saturday’s Edo State governorship election is Senator Monday Okpebholo.

The All Progressives Congress’ candidate for governor, Okpebholo, was proclaimed the victor of the hotly contested election on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

At the INEC collation center in Benin City, the election’s returning officer, Prof. Faruq Adamu Kuta, vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, declared the results.

With 247,274 votes, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party won seven LGs, while Okpebholo received 291,667 votes, gaining eleven of the state’s eighteen LGs.

With 22,761 votes, Labour Party member Olumide Akpata finished a distant third.

Facts about the incoming governor of Edo

  1. Senator Monday Okpebholo was born on August 29, 1970, in Uwessan-Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, into the family of the late Chief and Mrs. Peter Okpebholo of the Udomi community.

  2. His mother was from Ikekiala community in Eguare-Uromi, Esan North East LGA, while his father was from Udomi community in Uwesan-Irrua, Esan Central LGA.

  3. Okpebholo, also called Akpakomiza, went to Ujabhole Community Secondary School and Udomi Community Primary School in Uwesan-Irrua, Esan Central LGA, respectively.

  4. He graduated from the University of Abuja with a degree in business administration. At the same UniAbuja, he continued his education by earning a Master’s degree in Policy and Leadership Studies.

  5. On February 25, 2023, Okpebholo defeated the Peoples Democratic Party’s 24-year monopoly in the Edo Central Senatorial District by winning the seat under the banner of the All Progressives Congress.

  6. He was sworn in as the senator for the Edo Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly on June 13, 2023, and he assumed the role of chair of the Senate Committee on Public Procurement.

  7. Okpebholo was proclaimed the victor of the Edo State APC governorship primary election on February 23, 2024.

  8. Okpebholo is a businessman who has investments in the hospitality, building, energy & gas, and ICT sectors.

  9. In Jos, the capital of Plateau State, Senator Okpebholo formed Chapman Computers Limited. Later, he founded Interweb Satcom Limited, a significant player in the development and sales of broadband.
