The GDP Of Nigeria Grows By 3.2%, And Waste Management Creates 1.6 Million Jobs (FG)

The Nigerian government recently announced an important economic milestone: the country’s GDP grew by 3.2% thanks to improvements in trash management. This shows how important the waste management industry is, not only for protecting the environment but also for growing the income of the country. Along with the growth in GDP, the sector has created about 1.6 million new jobs every year, which is a big deal for a country that has had problems with unemployment and economic slowdown for a long time.

As part of the government’s plan to make the garbage management sector even stronger, the National Association of Scrap and garbage Dealers Employers of Nigeria (NASWDEN) has formed a new task force. The task force’s goal is to stop illegal actions and acts of vandalism that damage public buildings. These criminal activities are now a big problem for the economy as a whole as well as for the government. The task force is trying to stop people from destroying public property so that illegal actions don’t stop the growth of the sector and waste a lot of money.

Sustainable waste management techniques are becoming more and more important for both the economy and the environment, and this project is based on that idea. Managing waste has created a lot of jobs; thousands of Nigerians are directly worked in collecting, recycling, and getting rid of trash. So, this new task group wants to protect jobs that are already there and also make new ones for Nigerians as the sector grows and becomes more modern.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, spoke through his Special Assistant on Research and Strategy, Saidu Ahmed, about how these efforts will help society as a whole. The minister said that improving the relationship between people and the government is very important for making sure that methods for managing waste work well. The program aims to make people more involved and accountable, so they can help protect public property and make sure that waste management methods stay in line with national development goals.

Balarabe Abbas, Nigeria’s Minister of Environment, talked about how big of a problem it is that the country produces 32 million tons of solid trash every year. This huge number shows how important it is to improve the country’s trash management systems and methods. And Abbas said that the better trash management, which has helped the country’s economy grow, is also making the country less reliant on imports, which makes the trade balance better. By focusing on recycling and making better use of trash, the government has cut the cost of imports by about 4.4 billion euros, which is a big part of making Nigeria’s economy more stable.

Waste management is important for improving public health and safety as well as the economy and the environment. Better systems for getting rid of trash lower the risk of diseases and damage to the environment, which helps everyone, not just people who work in the field. More and more people think that sustainable garbage management is a key part of Nigeria’s long-term development goals, especially as the country’s cities grow and more people move there.

NAWDEN also said they are planning a national stakeholder tour where government agencies, private groups, and foreign partners will meet to talk about the future of waste management in Nigeria. The last stop on this trip will be the first-ever National Waste Management Workers Summit, which is set to happen in early 2025. As a place to share ideas, the summit will encourage more cooperation between different players in the field, and it will also boost productivity. But more importantly, it will help meet the ongoing need to create jobs in garbage management, an industry that has a lot of room for more jobs.

The Chairman of NAK Steel Rolling Mills Company Ltd., Alhaji Akilu Hassan Mohammed, praised the government for taking the initiative to deal with trash. He praised the policies that the Katsina State government and the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had put in place. These policies have helped recycling programs grow and made garbage management better. Mohammed’s words show that more and more people see the waste industry as a way to make the economy grow in a way that lasts, especially when it’s connected to bigger efforts to protect the environment and make public policy better.

There are still problems in the waste management field, even though there has been clear progress. There are still problems with illegally dumped trash, bad facilities, and people not knowing enough about the benefits of recycling. The new task force will deal with these worries by making sure that the country’s waste management plans are carried out properly by keeping an eye on things and keeping people safe. Their work is also seen as very important for helping the government reach its long-term goals of promoting a green economy, cutting down on pollution, and making Nigeria a safer and better place for everyone to live.

Sustainable environmental management is becoming more and more important to a country’s economic and social growth. This is in line with what the government is doing by focusing on garbage management as a key part of economic growth. Nigeria is setting itself up to be a leader in Africa’s green economy by investing in the waste sector. It could even sell waste management skills and services to other countries in the area.

In the end, it’s clear that waste control has helped Nigeria’s economy grow. The government wants the waste management industry to be a major force for job creation, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. They are doing this by launching new task groups like the one started by NASWDEN and revising policies. As Nigeria works to improve its waste management methods, the sector still has a huge amount of potential to help the country reach its larger development goals. It is very important for the government, private sector, and foreign partners to keep working together so that waste management not only boosts the economy but also makes people’s lives better. This will make it a key part of Nigeria’s future prosperity.
