Years ago, 2Face Idibia and Annie Macaulay were struck by Cupid’s arrow after their naive friendship, which started during a studio session, developed into a lovely romance in 2013.
Annie celebrated her 13-year marriage to the music superstar and her 25-year friendship a few weeks ago.
Annie reminisced on her family’s enduring unity while sharing snippets of their “Detty December moments” in a series of images on her Instagram account.
Annie acknowledged the difficulties they had encountered over the years, such as breakups and reconciliations, but she also expressed thankfulness for their shared bond.
“Even the devil and witches/wizards should give up,” she added, addressing her detractors and begging them to quit up.
The couple’s love thread gets strained and finally breaks apart as the plot of their dazzling romance approaches a crescendo. Over the years, they experienced tumultuous periods in their relationship. They both managed to return to each other’s arms in spite of the ups and downs.
However, how did this lovely tale of love turn so sour?
When Annie was only fifteen, she met 2face Idibia at Even Ezra Music Studio, and she says, “I think there was some electricity that second.”
“I knew you were the one for me and I was for you the moment our eyes met at Even Ezra Studios many years ago. Innocent is a unique individual. He was 24 and I was 15, and it feels like yesterday (it’s hard to think he’s already 40). And when I look at him, I still see the same man. So vibrant.
By the time they filmed the “African Queen” video in 2004, they had formally begun dating after first being acquaintances. In an interview, 2Face revealed their relationship at that point.
Annie clarified: “My buddies and I spent my sixteenth birthday at Alpha Beach. Together with his cousin, we all walked to the bus station on our way home. Plantashun Boiz wasn’t a star yet; he had just recorded “Knock Me Off.”
When we went to pay the conductor, he remarked, “No, he done pay already,” which made me feel like a baby. He had sat in front of the bus with his cousin. “Hey! Everyone’s bus fare was covered by my partner. At that time, the cost of a bus for 14 persons was around N2.50k or N3 per person. In the February 2013 issue of TW Magazine, Annie Idibia said, “But he told me recently that he didn’t eat that night because he paid for everyone.”
When it quickly became out that 2Face had gotten two different ladies pregnant—Pero Adeniyi and Sumbo Ajala—she was upset. The pair ended their relationship at that point.
2Face and Annie experienced their longest breakup, which lasted about a year and a half, until Pero and Sumbo became pregnant for 2Face once more. They reconciled, though, and Annie gave birth to 2Face’s fifth kid, Isabel, before Pero gave birth to his sixth child in the US in 2012. As they say, love always finds a way.
For years, Pero and Annie have been at odds. They both criticized one another on social media in 2015 and 2016, which is when their disagreement began. When pictures of 2Face kissing Pero at the singer’s nightclub in 2015 surfaced online, their icy relationship took a backseat.
According to reports, 2Face and Annie were married in a star-studded ceremony in Dubai on March 23, 2013.
The legendary artist finally spoke out in a statement to his admirers and well-wishers following weeks of rumors over the status of their marriage.
“Hello, my lovely folks from every Federation. Well, what I have to say is both brief and lengthy. After being apart for some time, Annie Macaulay and I have filed for divorce. I would soon give a press release to tell my tale because I love my people and I want them to know if I am innocent or guilty, not because anyone has a right to know about my private life. God bless you, my folks. All of you are loved,” 2Face wrote.
Many people are surprised by this news, particularly because the couple only a few days previously celebrated their wedding anniversary.
Annie had openly denied reports of a split during the event, tweeting pictures from their private celebration and heartfelt tributes on social media.
But this information now puts the persistent rumors and rumors about their marriage’s problems in perspective.
