Tinubu Praises Tems On His Grammy Victory, Saying, “You Brought Pride To Nigeria.”

For her song “Love Me Jeje,” the singer, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, took home the award for “Best African Music Performance.”

President Tinubu called the achievement “deserving” just hours after accepting the honor.

In a statement released Monday afternoon, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga stated, “President Tinubu commends the singer on behalf of the entire nation for her unique artistry, which has brought pride to Nigeria on the global stage for the second time.”

According to the presidency, “Afrobeats has achieved international prominence, projecting the nation’s reputation as a powerhouse of musical innovation, creativity, and cultural influence,” thanks to the “new generation of young and multi-talented Nigerian musical artists.”

According to Tinubu, “Afrobeats, in particular, has become a source of national pride from Africa to Antarctica, Asia to Australia, Europe to the Americas, promoting a sense of identity and self-expression while uniting people across borders.”

Only Tems received a prize, despite the fact that several Nigerian musicians, including Burna Boy, Davido, Lojay, Wizkid, Asake, and Yemi Alade, were nominated in different categories. But Tinubu claimed to be proud of “these patriots for showcasing the country’s creative excellence and for putting Nigeria on the global map of great achievers in the music industry.”

“Many young people look up to you as role models and sources of inspiration. Your contributions to music, employment creation, and tourism marketing continue to be much appreciated by the country. The president went on, “I hope all of you have continued success in your musical endeavors.”

Tinubu is the latest in a long line of people to congratulate the Nigerian artist on her Grammy victory. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential contender, had earlier expressed his happiness with Tem’s accomplishment.
