Two people were killed and ten others were hurt in a terrible car accident on the Enugu-Port Harcourt highway in Abia State. The accident happened on Sunday at 5:02 p.m., close to the Ntigha interchange on the highway. The incident was reported by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who said they were called at 5:07 p.m. and the response team got there in just five minutes.
Initial findings show that a flat tire was most likely what caused the accident. The FRSC’s Crash Investigation experts are doing a more in-depth investigation to find any other factors that may have played a role. A green Toyota Hiace bus with 16 people on board was involved in the accident. 15 of them were adult men, and 1 was an adult woman. When the accident happened, the Church of Christ bus was making its way back from a rally in Enugu.
One person tragically died right there, and another died of their injuries after being rushed to the Mbawsi Central Medical Center. Two people have died, both grown men. The rest of the hurt people were taken to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) for care, where doctors are keeping an eye on them.
Through the Abia Sector Commander, the FRSC sent its condolences to the families of the dead and helped those who were hurt. Commander Ngozi Ezeoma also used the event to stress how important it is to keep vehicles in good shape, especially when it comes to tire safety. She told all drivers that they should check their tires often to make sure they are in good shape, because tires that are too low on air or too worn out can be very dangerous on the road.
Ezeoma told the public that the FRSC was dedicated to maintaining road safety and promised to keep teaching drivers why they need to follow traffic laws and rules. She emphasized the importance of taking preventative steps to lower the number of these kinds of crashes and urged people to be careful on the roads. The agency’s ongoing work aims to keep people from dying or getting hurt on Nigeria’s roads, especially during the holiday season, when traffic is usually the worst.
This accident shows how dangerous driving can be and how important it is to keep your car in good shape. It also shows how important it is for drivers to always be aware of their surroundings and be careful. The exact reason for this accident is still being looked into, but flat tires are a known risk factor that has led to many accidents in the past. As part of their work to cut down on traffic deaths, road safety officials will continue to push for safe driving habits and regular car checks.
