In a very important match for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Benin Republic will face Nigeria.
The matchup is sure to be intense because the two West African foes have a history of being very competitive.
But Nigeria came back with a 3-0 win at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo in September in their AFCON playoff.
Gernot Rohr, Benin’s head coach, will be under a lot of pressure to get a win because a loss could hurt the country’s chances of making it to the AFCON event.
Rohr has called back five players to make the team stronger: David Kiki, Tosin Aiyegun, Lenny Pirringuel, Ryan Adigo, and Serge Obassa. The team will not have experienced defender Cedric Hountondji, though, because he is hurt and can’t play.
Head coach Augustine Eguavoen has put together a strong Nigerian team, which includes star shooter Victor Osimhen, who didn’t play in the last game against Libya.
Ademola Lookman, who was nominated for the Ballon d’Or, is also in the group. He gives Nigeria’s offense more strength as they try to keep up their momentum in their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
