Governor Udom Emmanuel has stated that the Akwa Ibom State government in 2019 was taken to court by “witches” for building a Christian worship centre in the state.
The multi-billion naira worship center that Governor Udom is building has triggered lots of controversies as many argue that it should have been used to develop the state.
During a media chat over the weekend, Governor Udom said that it is important for Akwa Ibom “as a state named after God, to build a temple for God.
The Akwa Ibom state Governor, during the program, said, “All (the) witches and wizards came together and took me to the court where we are building a Christian Worship Center.
“They say they are atheists. The case is in the court, we won them but they have appealed.”
According to the reports, One of Udom’s aides, Aniekeme Finbarr who made clarifications a few the interview said, the Governor was referring to a lawsuit which was filed against Akwa Ibom State Government in 2019 by the Atheist Society of Nigeria. The suit was aimed at stopping the government from building the worship centre.
The court, however, dismissed the suit and awarded an N500,000 cost against the atheist society.
“It sounds extremely funny but it is true. There are actually real legal attempts to stop the building project.”
