Residents of the Niger State capital, Minna, have taken to the streets to protest against the rising cost of living in the country. Major roads have been blocked as a result.
On Monday, the protesters came out in their numbers, protesting the increasing prices of food and other essential commodities as they demanded attention to their pressing economic concerns.
The protesters said the rising cost of food items and poor government efforts to arrest the situation have forced them to block major roads so that the government will hear their cries and make life a lot easier for them.
According to reports, tensions escalated when an attempt by the police to intervene was met with resistance, prompting officers to fire shots into the air to disperse the crowd.
