Wood Joins Palmer And Haaland On The Exclusive List

With his 16th Premier League goal since Nuno took over, the Nottingham Forest striker now trails only the Manchester City and Chelsea combination.

Chris Wood had many reasons to celebrate on Monday night, even though he dedicated his game-winning goal for Nottingham Forest against Crystal Palace to his expectant wife.

With his goal in the 65th minute, Wood has now scored 16 Premier League goals since Nuno Espirito Santo took over at the City Ground shortly before Christmas, more than only Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (22) and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (23).

After Bryan Roy (24) and Stan Collymore (22) scored 20 goals or more for Forest in the Premier League, the New Zealand international became just the third player to do so with his fifth goal of the season.

Following Forest’s season-opening home league victory, Wood stated, “We announced to the world that my wife is pregnant a couple of days ago.”

“We are having a baby girl so I am excited to welcome her into the world.”

Wood has impressively scored five of Forest’s eight goals this season and seven of their last ten Premier League goals. This indicates that Wood is in charge of 63% of Forest’s goals in 2024–2025. With four of Ipswich Town’s six goals this season, Liam Delap is the only player with a higher percentage of a team’s goals (67%) than any other player.

Wood was quick to compliment his teammates and head coach Nuno for their contributions in getting him to the 20-goal milestone for Forest.

“I have got the backing of Nuno and it is fantastic to have a manager right behind you,” he stated. “You must be prepared to put them in the net because our team is excellent and creates a lot of chances.

“We were relieved to win at home tonight because we knew it would give us a boost to start the season. It is about being consistent and doing what we have been doing throughout the season. We succeeded in achieving the objective and finishing it.

“The crowd helped us win, and it’s amazing to do it here at the City Ground under the lights.

“At this point, we must continue moving forward. On Friday, we have a crucial match [against Leicester City]. Anything can occur.
