3 Short Term And Long Term Effects Of Smoking Crack Cocaine

Crack Cocaine is a hard, mineral-like substance with an off-white tint. It is made by mixing baking soda or ammonia into the powder form of Cocaine.

The effects of crack cocaine are more immediate and more intense than that of powdered cocaine.

People who engage in this addiction often don’t sleep or eat properly. As an illicit substance, any use of Crack Cocaine is considered abuse.

Smoking crack further presents a series of health risks.

In this article, I will list out three major short term and three long term effects associated with engaging in this addiction

SHORT TERM EFFECTS

Like I mentioned earlier, the short term effect is usually very immediate and causes a short-lived, intense high that is immediately followed by the opposite—intense depression, edginess and a craving for more of the drug.

Three major short-term effects include:

1.) Anxiety, Paranoia, and Depression

2.) Convulsions, seizures and sudden death from high doses (even one time)

3.) Hallucinations.

LONG TERM EFFECTS

Coming down from the drug causes severe depression, which becomes deeper and deeper after each use. This can get so severe that a person will do almost anything to get the drug—even commit murder. And if he or she can’t get crack cocaine, the depression can get so intense it can drive the addict to suicide.

Three major long term effects include:

1.) Sexual problems, reproductive damage and infertility (for both men and women)

2.) Permanent damage to blood vessels of ear and brain, high blood pressure, leading to heart attacks, strokes and death.

3.) Severe Depression
