A 70-year-old man identified as Alto Ado was on Thursday sentenced to life in prison by the Jigawa State High Court in Kazaure for defiling three girls.
On October 14, 2020, the accused was detained for allegedly enticing two minors, ages seven and nine, into an unfinished building in Kazaure town and forcibly having unlawful sexual intercourse with them.
The defendant, a watchman, was eventually apprehended and charged with rape in court.
In order to prove the case, the prosecution called five witnesses to testify against the suspect.
Presiding Judge, Justice Hussaina Adamu Aliyu said rape is punishable under Section 3 of the Penal Code (Miscellaneous Amendment) Law, 2014.
While delivering the decision, the court stated that the evidence offered by the prosecution counsel proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Ado was therefore sentenced to life imprisonment.
