Reuters, MAIDUGURI, January 20 According to the director-general of the regional emergency service, 86 people have died as a result of a fuel truck explosion in Nigeria.
In Dikko, Niger State, a gasoline truck flipped over and detonated on Saturday, killing everyone who went to get fuel from the debris.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency’s director-general, Abdullahi Baba-Ara, said in a statement on Sunday that “80 of them are in mass grave at Dikko (primary health center), while 5 were carried away into town by relatives and 1 died at Dikko PHC.”
Fifty-five more persons were hurt.
In October, 147 people were killed in a similar catastrophe in Jigawa State.
