Nigerian music luminary, Wizkid, has ignited yet another wave of discourse through a sequence of provocative social media statements, in which he seemingly directs barbs at compatriot Davido, deriding his self-assigned moniker of “001.”
Wizkid, in a post on Wednesday via X, stated, “The only occasion one is 001 is when one is in one’s residence.” You are not the first of anything, merely a collection of Instagram followers!
The prominent figure in Afrobeats also made a pointed remark regarding Davido’s circle, suggesting that the artist associates with individuals who rely on his financial support. He stated, “Naija is a place where the affluent exploit poverty, so you surround yourself with these financially struggling individuals in reality and secure them visas to ensure their adoration.”
Wizkid, born Ayodeji Balogun, on Wednesday, seemingly directed jabs at Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, frequently referred to as the ‘Dancing Governor,’ stating, “When you observe individuals whose parents and families have nurtured them, you will understand!” You do not observe my uncle engaging in dance online.
This remark is perceived by numerous individuals as an allusion to Adeleke, recognized for his vibrant dance movements frequently showcased on social media platforms.
Wizkid further addressed the assertions regarding Puma, a prominent global brand, allegedly opting to compensate Davido at a higher rate than himself.
“Absolutely not!” Puma is a prominent brand; however, the financial allocation they designated for Africa did not align with my expectations. It was quite impressive for your client, indeed!” he noted.
He proceeded to elucidate that he had declined Puma’s proposal, stating, “I turned down Puma because they were no longer able to meet my financial expectations!” I find that unnecessary. Significantly larger than any artist you have just referenced!
In a fervent retort to Nelson Epega, the founder and CEO of Chatter, a social audio-visual platform, Wizkid asserted, “First off, you can’t afford me, fool!” You are engaging in commerce with an individual whose financial expectations align with your capabilities.
Epega had earlier asserted that his company would refrain from engaging in any business dealings with Wizkid, characterizing him as a “uncontrollable psychopath” while lauding Davido’s widespread acclaim.
In a separate commentary, Wizkid challenged Davido’s artistic and personal competencies, asserting, “You’re not as impressive as I am, cannot match my vocal or musical prowess, and do not surpass my financial success.”
He also criticized Davido’s entourage, labeling them as “broke” and referring to his lawyer as “a fool” for consistently being in his presence.
The fervent discourse has rekindled the enduring rivalry between the two prominent Afrobeats artists and provoked considerable debate across social media platforms.
