The latest news about Manchester United is that the Premier League has hired Rob Jones. This comes just days after a controversial decision involving Lisandro Martinez against Chelsea.
Rob Jones, the referee who didn’t send off Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez for tackling Cole Palmer late in the game at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, has only been given fourth-tier duties for the next weekend. It wasn’t a good idea to look over the challenge in extra time, but Jones let Martinez stay on the field even though he made a high contact with the England and Chelsea player.
Different people have different thoughts on the decision. Gary Neville says it should have been reversed, while former Premier League referee Mike Dean thinks the yellow card is enough punishment. In this game, Michael Salisbury was the Video Assistant Referee at Stockley Park. He looked into what happened but only gave the player a warning.
Now that the Premier League has announced their schedule for Matchday 11, the last game before the last international break of 2024, Jones knows what will happen to him. For the third week in a row, Jones has been in charge of one of the big games. This week, he will be watching from the stands at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Jones will fill in for referee Darren England on Sunday afternoon. He will be the fourth official and will be in charge of Ange Postecoglou and Kieran McKenna’s training areas. Jones also doesn’t have any other work to do over the weekend.
