Contentious Following his arraignment on accusations of assault and obstruction of government officials, Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, was granted bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta.
After being listed as wanted by the Ogun State Command, Portable had previously turned himself in to the police at the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) on Wednesday. He was taken to the Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, before to his court appearance on Thursday.
Five charges were brought against the singer: conspiracy, assault, restriction, carrying a gun or cutlass, and conduct likely to cause injury.
He entered a not guilty plea to every accusation.
Oluwatoyin Ayodele, his attorney, begged the court for release, stating that Portable “is now remorseful and has learned his lessons.”
Magistrate O. L. Oke postponed the case until March 5 for the trial and granted the singer N2 million bail with one surety in the same amount.
In addition to Portable, the magistrate also arraigned nine of his assistants on related offenses.
The defendants were charged with felony, assault, obstruction, and conduct likely to breach public peace. They included Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammad (26).
Prior to this, the Ogun State Government had denounced Portable’s purported behavior, calling him a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal.”
The allegations were related to an alleged incident on February 5, 2025, in Portable’s Odogwu Bar in the Sango region of Ogun State, where he and his companions allegedly attacked three town planners, Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero, while they were carrying out their official duties.
