A thorough voter guide has been released by the US Mission in Nigeria to help US residents living in Nigeria cast ballots in the next elections, which are scheduled for November 5, 2024.
The mission described the procedures American residents must follow to guarantee their votes are counted in a statement it posted on its X account on Monday.
“Attention U.S. citizens residing in Nigeria!” the statement says. US residents living abroad need to take three procedures in order to cast a ballot in the elections scheduled for November 2024:
(1) Make a ballot request. See http://FVAP.gov for guidelines.
(2) Get your ballot and fill it out.
(3) Send your ballot back.
“You can mail it yourself, or you can drop it off at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the Consulate General in Lagos in a postage-paid envelope.”
The manual states that there are three essential elements in the voting procedure for US citizens residing in Nigeria:
- Request a Ballot: Before anything else, citizens of the United States must go to FVAP.gov to submit a ballot request. For voters who live abroad, the website offers comprehensive instructions on how to request a ballot along with other resources.
-
Finish the Ballot: After obtaining the ballot, voters must complete it in accordance with the guidelines given.
-
Return the Ballot: Voters have two options for returning completed ballots: mailing them directly to the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos or dropping them off in a postage-paid envelope at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja.
The US Mission urged citizens to finish these procedures as soon as possible in order to prevent delays that would limit their opportunity to cast ballots.
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, there will be a number of state and municipal elections in addition to the presidential and congressional races in the U.S. general elections.
Between Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump, the presidential contest is a crucial contest.
Meanwhile, Democratic contender Kamala Harris attended a campaign event centered on the contentious topic of abortion, marking the beginning of early voting for the hotly disputed U.S. presidential election in November.
Following his fraudulent claims of victory in the 2020 election, Republican nominee Donald Trump has previously denounced the practice of early voting, which began in three states: Virginia, Minnesota, and South Dakota.
