After suffering stab wounds in a fight with an intruder at his home in Mumbai, the financial center of India, for which he was receiving surgery, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was declared safe by authorities on Thursday.
Khan, 54, is one of the most lucrative celebrities in the nation. He is the son of actress Sharmila Tagore and former India cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi.
Gedam Dixit, a senior police official, told Reuters, “He (Khan) is being treated … and is out of danger.”
According to hospital official Niraj Uttamani, who was previously quoted by news agency ANI, “He is currently undergoing surgery,” and “Once the surgery is completed, the extent of the damage will be understood.”
Uttamani, the chief operating officer of the hospital where Khan was transported at around 3:30 a.m., revealed that a small fragment of a foreign body had been found near the spine.
Khan, along with his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan, an actor, and their two kids, reside in an apartment in the western district of Bandra. Khan has appeared in over 70 films and television shows, some of which he has produced.
Khan was undergoing a procedure following the break-in attempt, according to his wife’s representatives, who also stated, “The rest of the family is doing fine.”
Additionally, police reported that a female employee was attacked at their house while receiving medical attention. They have opened an inquiry and are currently looking for the attacker.
Opposition politicians and movie stars demanded that police bolster city security.
“What could happen to regular people if such well-known individuals with … security can be attacked in their homes?” The Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson, Clyde Crasto, who is commanded by Sharad Pawar, inquired about X.
The western state of Maharashtra, whose headquarters is Mumbai, saw elections in November that were won by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies.
Pooja Bhatt, an actress and filmmaker, also advocated for more police presence in the suburb where many people working in the film industry reside.
She used a well-known term for the posh neighborhood to say on X, “The city, and especially the queen of the suburbs, have never felt so unsafe before.”
