Breaking: The Lagos Assembly Is Overrun By Obasa.

Mudashiru Obasa, the former speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has overrun the assembly building.

It was discovered that at around noon on Thursday, Obasa entered the Speaker’s Office accompanied by a few security personnel.

This came about as a result of Speaker Mojisola Meranda’s security staff leaving.

Segun Ajiboye, Meranda’s chief press secretary, confirmed the development in a brief statement on Thursday, accusing Obasa and his group of breaking into the office.

Another person in the Obasa camp added, “We’re at the assembly now.”

Since Obasa was ousted as speaker and Meranda was elected, the legislature has been beset by a leadership crisis.

More than 90% of the lawmakers accused Obasa of a number of offenses, including poor leadership, consistently arriving late to plenary and legislative sessions, being conceited and disrespectful of fellow lawmakers and the executive, particularly the governor, abusing his position and privileges, intimidating and oppressing members, and misappropriating.

At the direction of President Bola Tinubu, a number of All Progressives Congress leaders, including former governors of Osun, Ogun, and Lagos states, Chief Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba, and Akinwunmi Ambode, respectively, held a series of meetings with state political stakeholders, including assembly members, last weekend in an effort to resolve the crisis.

Both Obasa and Meranda may be leaving their positions to allow another legislator to lead the house.

Chief Muraina Taiwo, a member of the Governors Advisor Council, pointed out that the party leaders were considering one of the seven Lagos West MPs as the next Speaker.
