Due To The Contest For Secretary, Protesters Attack The PDP Secretariat.

To stop Sunday Ude-Okoye from taking over as national secretary, some young people protested Monday at the entrance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja.

The demonstrators held signs that read, among other things, “Senator Sam Anyanwu remains the National Secretary” and “No vacancy in the National Secretary’s office.”

The High Court’s decision to recognize former national youth leader Mr. Ude-Okoye as the PDP’s national secretary in opposition to Mr. Anyanwu was maintained by the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, in December.

The appellate court stated in the main ruling by Ridwan Abdullahi that Mr. Anyanwu’s claim to the post following his run for and victory in the PDP governorship race in Imo State was unconstitutional and that his appeal lacked merit.

He appealed to the Supreme Court and refused to leave office in spite of the ruling.

On the basis of the ruling, Mr. Ude-Okoye promised to take over on Monday.

The second-highest court in the nation, the Court of Appeal, has ruled in my favor. By taking up my role as national secretary, I shall stay up to speed with history,” he declared on Sunday.

to around 10:50 a.m., Mr. Anyanwu and a few of his followers came to the secretariat.
