The landlord’s son, who is managing the property (a collapsed three-storey building) in Ebute-Meta on Monday, noted that tenants were issued a quick notice after they discovered the distress in the building, but the tenants refused to comply.
He stated this while speaking to newsmen on Monday. He also noted that he was living in the building with other tenants when he noticed the distress and had to move out of the building and rented another apartment within the same vicinity.
The caretaker who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “I had to leave the building and rented an apartment in the same vicinity.”
According to him, he has not collected rental fees from tenants in a long time as he had asked them to pack out.
Also, the LASEMA DG, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the building was dilapidated and had been sealed for demolition, but the occupants refused to evacuate the building.
