All applicants for visiting visas must now appear in person for renewals as the US has halted its visa dropbox service in Nigeria.
In the past, the Dropbox method shortened wait times by allowing qualified applicants—especially those with recent travel experience in the United States—to submit passport applications without an interview.
Given that some immigration interviews are already scheduled more than a year in advance, the loss of this option has raised concerns about further delays.
Travel plans for many Nigerians, especially business and student travelers, may now be disrupted.
Some analysts attribute the decision to the residual effects of Donald Trump’s tight immigration policy, even though the U.S. Embassy has not offered an official reason.
Citing security concerns, his administration has previously banned travel to a number of African countries, including Nigeria.
