A group called the Concerned Citizens of Bomadi Constituency has officially asked the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, to explain in detail why Mr. Oboro Kenneth Preyor, the member for Bomadi Constituency, was suspended. The 14 parliamentary days that Preyor was suspended were because he was accused of gross misconduct. However, the ban has led to a lot of questions and worries, especially about how clear the reasons were for the decision.
In their statement, the group said that the ban has caused a lot of public unease, especially since many people in and outside of Bomadi Constituency are wondering what “gross misconduct” really means in this case. According to the group, the Delta State House of Assembly has not given a clear account of what actions or behaviors led to Preyor’s suspension. This has made things unclear, and the public doesn’t know why such an important action was taken.
The group has also raised questions about how fair the suspension process was. There were questions raised about whether Preyor had been warned or punished in any way before the ban was put in place. The people also want to know if the Delta State House of Assembly has clear rules or a formal description for what gross misconduct is, and if so, if these rules are open for everyone to look at. They think that these steps are necessary to make sure that the process of making decisions is open and responsible.
Because of these worries, the group has asked the Speaker to give a full and thorough explanation for the suspension. They say that the people of Delta State deserve to know why such an important decision was made. They said that openness is very important for keeping the public’s trust in the voting process and making sure that the Assembly works in a fair and responsible way. They are worried that if things aren’t open and honest, the public might lose faith in the House, which would make it harder for people to communicate with their officials.
Also, the group was worried about how Preyor’s suspension would affect the representation of his constituents as the governor of the state got ready to give the 2025 budget proposal to the Assembly. The Assembly will talk about the budget, which is a key document that will shape the state’s growth over the next year. The group is concerned that Preyor’s absence during these talks could mean that Bomadi Constituency doesn’t have a say in the decisions that are made. Because the budget is such an important part of allocating state resources, the group asked the Speaker to make sure that Preyor’s constituents are properly represented, even though he was suspended.
Last but not least, the group has asked the Delta State House of Assembly to be more accountable and open. They think that if the Assembly gave clear reasons for suspending Preyor, it would not only keep the public’s trust but also show that it cares about making fair decisions. In their statement, the group makes it clear that openness is a key part of keeping people’s trust in the things their elected leaders do. The Speaker could help make sure that the Assembly stays accountable to the people it serves by answering the questions that have been asked about Preyor’s suspension and giving reasons for the decision. This would build trust and confidence in the legislative process.
