Nico Gonzalez, a midfield player for Porto, is a target for Manchester City.
According to Portuguese sources, City’s offer for the 23-year-old former Barcelona star has already been rejected.
The bid was reportedly around 50 million euros (£42 million).
At a total cost of more than £120 million, City has already acquired three players during the current transfer window: Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov, Brazilian defender Vitor Reis, and Egypt striker Omar Marmoush.
When asked if he would make any more acquisitions on Friday, manager Pep Guardiola remained evasive.
Since Rodri, the Ballon d’Or winner, sustained a serious knee injury in September, Guardiola has been worried about his midfield.
Injuries to his defenders have made it impossible for him to use John Stones or Manuel Akanji as backups, which has made the issue worse.
