I Met With SDP Chair El-Rufai To Address “Strategic” Party Matters.

Details of Shehu Gabam’s recent conversation with Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate former governor of Kaduna State, have been made public by the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) national chairman.

Gabam brushed off criticism of his party’s interaction with El-Rufai during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, insisting that such conversations are legitimate.

Why all the commotion about Malam Nasir El-Rufai? They claim that he is not important. He is nothing. Why is El-Rufai a concern? Why is Segun Sowunmi a concern? If they are significant, why won’t the government assign them the appropriate responsibilities they require to improve government efficiency?” he said.

As part of the party’s larger initiatives, Gabam explained, the meeting’s objective was to carefully evaluate Nigeria’s political and economic environment in 2024.

“The purpose of the meeting was to strategically review the country’s situation in 2024 as a party,” he stated. We are an opposition party with elected representatives in state legislatures, municipal councils, and the parliament. Therefore, it is our responsibility as a party to examine areas where things are going wrong, open up the party, and engage with a large number of people.

When the PDP was misbehaving, the APC did the same thing: they reorganized, regrouped, and relaunched a merger, which ultimately resulted in the PDP’s defeat.

Therefore, we are not acting improperly. I’m not sure why there is such a commotion about it, as though this is the first time that Segun Sowunmi, a friend, or Nasir El-Rufai have been here. He stated, “We have been fighting for a better Nigeria, not to weaken it.

The SDP leader also attacked the current government, claiming that President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet ministers are incapable of carrying out the president’s directives.

He mentioned how severe the country’s economic problems are, saying they have never been this bad in the country.

Gabam issued a warning about possible political repercussions, pointing out that no president elected to a four-year term can remain politically viable if major issues emerge during the first two years.

“Jonathan’s opposition started within two years before he lost the election,” he said, drawing a comparison to the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
