The Yoruba Nation Campaigner Sunday Adeyemo, also called Sunday Igboho, has petitioned the UK Government.
Although the specifics of the petition are unknown, it is thought that Igboho is requesting UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s backing for the creation of the Yoruba Nation.
In a post on X on Sunday, the activist’s spokeswoman, Olayomi Koiki, stated that Igboho filed the case on behalf of Yoruba Nation movement leader Adebanji Akintoye.
“On behalf of Prof. Adebanji Akintoye, the leader of the YORUBA NATION movement, and Olayomi Koiki, his spokesperson, Dr. Chief Sunday Igboho delivered a petition to the UK prime minister at precisely 14:00 hours,” Koiki stated.
Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, in July 2021 and held at the Nigerian government’s request.
After the Department of State Services (DSS) raided Igboho’s home in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, on July 1, 2021, he left Nigeria.
Twelve of his assistants were arrested during the operation, and two people were killed. Igboho was declared wanted by the DSS after they said he was hoarding firearms.
Following his detention, the federal government made fruitless attempts to repatriate him to Nigeria.
Igboho was held in a jail institution in the nation after being arraigned at the Court D’Apeal in Cotonou.
He was accused of encouraging unrest, smuggling weapons, and advocating for the Yoruba to secede from Nigeria.
In 2023, he was finally allowed to leave prison.
