About a week before the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, told the voters that all security forces working on the election would not support any candidate. General Musa told the heads of security agencies in Ondo State how important it was for the security forces to be professional, work together, and follow the rules. He told the people that the security forces would work together well to make sure the election went smoothly and without any problems.
In line with President Bola Tinubu’s instructions, General Musa went to Ondo State. Tinubu wanted to make sure that all of the security forces working on the election coordinated and worked together well. The main goal of this coordination is to make sure there is enough news and that things stay calm during the election. He made it clear that the security forces would not support any political party or candidate and would not take a side. This showed their strong dedication to an impartial and free election process.
Additionally, the CDS said that security forces would focus on making the voting process easier for people, making sure that everyone feels safe and confident enough to take part. General Musa said that Nigerian elections often cause more security concerns, and it is important for the security forces to keep an even keel so they don’t scare voters or look like they’re taking sides. He told everyone in charge of security to stay alert but impartial, and to only worry about keeping the peace and order during the election.
General Musa praised the security forces for how well they ran the Edo governorship race, which most people thought was peaceful and well-organized. He told them they could repeat this success in Ondo, but they had to be very careful to follow through with their work duties. He reminded the security forces that their job was to protect the people of Ondo State and make sure the election process was open, safe, and effective.
Besides that, the CDS told the people of Ondo State that they could vote without worrying about their rights being violated. He made it clear that the security forces’ job was to protect their right to choose their own leaders without being forced or scared. He said again that the security forces would work together to create an environment where voters could easily exercise their democratic rights.
General Musa also talked about how important it was to keep a close eye on security staff in the field during his speech. He asked the leaders of the security agencies to make sure that their officers did their jobs and didn’t do anything that could hurt the election’s purity. He said that mistakes or bad behavior by security staff would not be accepted because it could hurt trust in the voting process.
At the meeting, the heads of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) all promised to work together to make sure the election was peaceful. The CDS was reassured that their employees would stay professional and dedicated to their jobs during the election period. The CDS was hopeful that the election, which would be supported by the security forces, would be one of the best in Ondo State’s past and help strengthen democratic processes in Nigeria.
All of the security agencies agreed at the end of the meeting to support the rule of law, respect the rights of citizens, and make sure that there was no violence or interference in the election. The guidance of General Musa and the unity of the security forces are meant to give the people of Ondo State peace of mind during the election, knowing that their rights and safety will be respected.
