Kano Traffic Officer Rejects Bribe After Intercepting Trucks Carrying Alcoholic Drinks

Halilu Kawo Jalo, an officer of the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), who rejected bribe to release confiscated bottles of alcoholic drinks, has said that it is unIslamic to consume alcohol. 

According to the reports,  the agency intercepted two trucks conveying over 2000 crates of alcoholic drinks worth over N50 million.

Hon. Baffa Babba Dan, rewarded Jalo, the Managing Director of KAROTA, who cut off the trucks with an N1million after he rejected a N500,000 bribe from the truck owners to release the drinks. 

Jalo said, “We intercepted the trucks on Obasanjo Road heading to Sabon Gari Area of the State. They offered me a bribe but I refused to take it because I know the damages alcohol causes to lives”.

“It is unIslamic to consume alcohol and also against the teaching of Islam to take bribes, these made me do the right thing,” he added.
