The gunmen who kidnapped the pupils and teachers of the Apostolic School, Emure-Ekiti, have contacted their parents and demanded a N10 million ransom for each of them.
On Monday, January 29, a school bus conveying the pupils and teachers, including the driver, was kidnapped at about 5 p.m. at Eporo-Ekiti, in the Emure area of the state.
According to the principal of the secondary section, Boje Olanireti, the kidnappers contacted the school to demand N100m for the 10 kidnapped victims.
“The students were over 25 on the bus when the incident happened. When the gunmen attacked them, they shot the tyre of the vehicle and asked the children to come out of the bus. They asked all of them to lie down. They picked five students and four staff members. They, after that, asked others to go.”
Police spokesperson Sunday Abutu said security forces, including police, army, Amotekun, NSCDC, and hunters, have arrested five suspects: Usman Jelili, Mohammed Bande, Abubakar Aliu, Suleiman Abdulah, and Isah Abdullahi. Two motorcycles, a cutlass, a dagger, and four phones were recovered from them.
