Lesotho’s Prime Minister Thomas Thabane resigns

Prime Minister of Lesotho, Thomas Thabane has officially resigned from his position a week after the falling apart of his coalition government.

Thomas Thabane made the announcement earlier today on a televised address to citizens.

“I come before you today to announce that the work that you assigned me may not be over but the time to retire from the great theatre of action, take leave from public life and office has finally arrived, I plead with the entire nation and leadership to give my successor utmost support and on my part, I wish to assure him of my support at all material times”

Thomas Thabane has been involved in a murder mystery of his ex-wife in 2017. The Deceased ex-wife was killed on the 14th of June, 2017 near her home in Maseru. this was around the time that Thomas Thabane filed for divorce from Lipolelo Thabane.

Thabane’s current wife, Maesaiah, has been charged with the murder alongside Thomas Thabane and is currently out on bail. The resignation of Thabane from Office means he can now face trial for the murder as he has been constitutionally excused from trial while he still served as Prime Minister.
