Riot police in Portugal had to separate and disperse Manchester City and Manchester United fans who were fighting ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League final match against Chelsea this weekend on Thursday night, May 27.
Two persons were reportedly hurt in fights outside Porto’s Sao Bento train station and in the city’s famed riverside district, the Ribeira.
This is the second night in a row that football fans have clashed in the country ahead of the final.
A man was brought to Santo Antonio Hospital by Portuguese police after an incident at the station about 10 p.m. local time last night/on Thursday, May 27.
The second occurrence happened about a half-hour later.
The brawl began when Manchester City fans began harassing holidaying Manchester United fans, whose team had recently lost on penalties to Villarreal in the Europa League final.
“That triggered off pushing and shoving, followed by fights in the street,” an eyewitness stated.
“Riot police had to wade in with batons to break it up.”
