Meet Emmanuel Odumosu, The Self Acclaimed Nigerian Jesus Christ

Emmanuel Odumosu, known as Jesu Oyingbo which means Jesus of Oyingbo was a middle-aged man who declared himself as the long awaited Jesus Christ in the year 1959.

He had over 30 wives with an estimate of about 80 children, of which not all his children believed in him.

During his declaration, he said:

”I am He, I am Jesus Christ, the very on whose second coming was foretold in the New Testament. I have come, and those who believe in me will have everlasting life and joy. I am the missing of the Trinity. I have come to prepare the faithful for the Judgement day”.

His declaration came as a shock to different people as they wondered what triggered the decision of the middle-aged man, although different people still visited his church to seek instant miracles.

Emmanuel’s church was the first church to be in the Oyingbo suburb of Lagos State and was called Universal College of Regeneration. He later moved the Church to Awoyokun Street, Ikorodu Road Palmgrove and later to Immanuel Street , Maryland Ikeja Lagos.

According to reports, Jesus of oyingbo’s mode of worship was in no way related to the bible as he concocted Christianity, Islam and Paganism to form his own mode of worship.

Some buildings he owned on Emmanuel street had inscriptions such as The Lion of Judah, Prince of Peace, Immanuel the Christ, etc and also had statutes of Mermaids and lions and Jesus Christ.

In his church, he baptised his members with nine strokes of the cane and not the usual water. Also, in his enclave, properties and one’s partner can easily be taken by him. There was a case of one member’s partner taken and given to another one because he was maltreating the wife.
