Popular activist Deji Adeyanju has verified that the Nigerian Police Force is holding singer and social media star Darlington Okoye, alias Speed Darlington, who has been reported missing.
The attorney Adeyanju disclosed that Speed Darlington, better known by his stage name Akpi, was taken into custody in Lagos last Friday and then moved to Abuja.
He stated that Burna Boy, a Grammy Award-winning performer, had filed an official complaint, which served as the basis for the arrest.
But he withheld information about the petition’s specifics.
This was disclosed by the activist on Tuesday in a post on his X account.
He stated, “We just spent the last 30 minutes talking to Speed Darlington, and he told us how he was taken into custody on Friday of last week after being detained in Lagos, transported around, and then brought to Abuja. Burna Boy penned the petition against him, as we can verify.
A social media personality named Constance Nwogu had earlier sounded the alarm about Speed Darlington’s purported disappearance.
Nwogu voiced worry about the artist’s location in a statement posted on social media on Monday, mentioning that he hasn’t been in contact for three days.
Through her Instagram page, Nwogu stated, “We’ve noticed that our man Speeddarlington (Akpi) has been missing for days now—three days now.”
She drew attention to the fact that Speeddarlington hasn’t posted on his social media pages in three days, which is unusual given his regular online activity.
Our correspondent’s investigations showed that Speeddarlington hasn’t posted on his YouTube profile in three days, on October 4, and hasn’t posted on Instagram in almost a month, on September 8, despite the fact that he frequently goes live on the platform.
Nobody has heard from him thus far. To no avail, we have all attempted to contact him,” she continued, highlighting how urgent the matter was.
Although Speeddarlington’s abrupt absence has not been explained, Nwogu speculated that it “may possibly be as a result of a video he must have made before now.”
In the video, Speed Darlington apparently connected Burna Boy to troubled singer Sean Combs, better known as P Diddy or Puff Daddy, and questioned the legitimacy of Burna Boy’s Grammy trophy.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy posted, “Who’s missing?” via X on Tuesday.
This follows the alleged loss of Speed Darlington.
But Burna Boy is not referring to any specific connections.
The public was then encouraged by Nwogu to come forward with any information that would help locate the missing entertainer.
This is crucial, please. She continued, “If anyone has any knowledge about this, please get in touch with me or don’t hesitate to share it.
She promised her fans that information will be updated when it became available.
If we hear back from anyone, we might as well update everyone. I really appreciate it, Nwogu stated.
As of the time of publication, the police had not released any information.
